Personal Info
Edit
I've played on lots of games over the years, and started in either late 2000 or early 2001--honestly can't remember right now! I largely play on superhero and anime-themed games, mainly because of their fairly open themes. I play exclusively original characters, in part because I don't actually know that much about real comic characters and don't feel I'd do a great job writing one, and in part because I love making up new characters. ^_^ All the time. ^_^
You may notice I happen to play a lot of kid characters--if I someday post my back catalog of characters with descriptions, you'll see that's not just currently, though it's also not exclusively (on this game, it is, though!). Frequently my characters range (in apparent age, at least) between 10-13. I do this for a lot of reasons. Primary among them, of course, is that I find playing kid characters fun and enjoy either taking the role of the inexperienced person who needs a mentor or turning the usual kid concept on its head in some way. Of my current characters, Davey and Lintsu are more the first, and Commune and Samuel are more the second. Additionally, I find that one of the best ways to avoid having to know a lot about comics and established characters is to play a character who wouldn't have all that knowledge to begin with--kids are a good way to do that (though I don't always use that--see Samuel). Besides, I've loved the "unexpected young hero" concept ever since the first Legend of Zelda. ^_^ In the three more tabletop-style RPGs I run myself, though, I play mostly full adults.
Normally, if I'm online, I'm open for RP--I don't log on just to socialize (not that I mind doing a little of that). So, if you want RP, page me. Note that it's pretty rare for me to have a clear idea what I want in a scene when I originally make a request for RP, as I tend to come up with ideas once I know who's coming unless I'm running a plot (which I do sometimes, but rarely, due to the aforementioned 3 RPGs). Plus, I find it's often fun just to set the scene and see what happens with characters. If you need something more focused, though, I can work with you--just don't expect that focused scene to be mentioned in the first RP request, usually. ^_^ One more note: If I'm actually running a scene, such as for a plot, it'll be for a small group of maybe 4 other players. This again is from my RPG experience--that's the size of my gamer group, and the size I'm comfortable with. I can participate in larger scenes, but actually tend to get a little uncomfortable even then, feeling like I'll miss something. So please bear with me if I seem nervous in any of those.
Unless I state otherwise during or after a scene, you have my permission to post logs involving my characters. I also adore it when my characters make enough of an impression on you to get mentioned by one of your characters in another scene, so don't hesitate to do so! ^_^
Things I really love
Edit
I love it when my characters make enough of an impact to be mentioned in other people's scenes. I really love it when I actually find out about this. ^_^ So if you give me a mention, drop me a line and let me know! Besides, it's a great way to make connections.
I love it when logs are posted involving my characters or mentioning them. I play a lot of OCs, and OCs tend to need some exposure for people to really want to RP with them.
I adore it when one of my characters is tapped as an information source or other helpful character for a plot or even a minor scene. I set up my characters to be able to serve as researchers, information providers, or other aids frequently (current characters serving this purpose: Samuel Black and Commune), so if you have a plot that they could help with, please let me know.
Who the heck is Sdrolion?
Edit
Sdrolion--or actually, S'drolion--is a character from my own RPG which I run for some friends of mine, "Bravery's Source." He's the honorable, righteous, faithful king of Draconisia, and a major ally to the heroes of the game.
"Bravery's Source" is run somewhat like a MUX--consent system and such--but with a GM (who has ultimate control over events), me. It's more a cooperative storytelling experience than a game, and really only works because I've known everyone involved for years. We started the game in high school and it's still running today, over 10 years later. (And it's moving pretty slowly, too...I've been "almost to the conclusion" for the past 2 years. O_O Oy.)
Popular Former Characters
Edit
These are characters I've played in the past that other players really seemed to like quite a lot. ^_^
- Gavin Geranson Laguz (Metamux, original Heroes' Dreams): Amnesiac kid with a secret and some massive magical powers that are totally out of control. Nicest guy in the world, a complete pacifist...and probably also one of the most likely to accidentally break the whole darn world one day. I forget who said it, but I recall someone saying once that Gavin was so adorable and innocent that if the Juggernaut was charging headlong at the X-mansion (where Gavin was staying at the time) and Gavin was in the way, Juggernaut would stop in his tracks, pick Gavin up, set him aside, pat him on the head, and go back to charging at everything else.
- Peetamber (original Heroes' Dreams): Young (relatively speaking) guardian spirit of Earth, in training of sorts by helping out a small area of the US. Made friends with a lot of supers and had a nearly constant cheerful manner and fairly hyperactive personality, but was also pretty darn good at what he did.
- Jacob Bargoi (Legends Rising, Legacy of Heroes, original Heroes' Dreams): I've done three different incarnations of this guy so far. He's a troublemaking thrillseeker who happens to be quite immortal. The first had fire-based powers and a general Phoenix theme (not the Phoenix force, the mythological kind), and the other two were shapeshifters. The latter two had kid "real" forms, due to halted aging because of the regenerative powers, but all normally appeared in adult or older teen forms (in fact, I think the second version only showed his younger form in maybe two scenes).
- Beknashan the Ancient (Legends Rising): One of only two full-time villains I've ever written for MUXes (in part because I play so many villains in my own RPGs!). Basically a very ancient guardian spirit of the earth who went a little insane and decided the way to preserve the planet was to eliminate all human life. Later calmed down thanks to the efforts of several heroes and decided to give humanity a second chance. A less-genocidal version of him is used as Peetamber's teacher and kindasorta father.
- Cowardice (Point of Focus): A villain I did for Point of Focus. An evil spirit of fear who took hosts and used the danger to said hosts from fights against the heroes. He was specifically made as a villain for another OC, Valor, who finally confronted him and was able to defeat him. (Also the only time I've written a permanent death for one of my primary characters.)
- Danny (Point of Focus and others): Foul-mouthed ancient dragon turned into a human kid and enslaved by a wizard in ancient times, now trying to break the curse. I stopped doing him on MUXes eventually, as he's a character who actually doesn't work that well with MUXes largely because he's a shadow king sort...controls things behind the scenes and is always in control. Plus, he's extremely foul-mouthed at times. I could do him in-rating for MUXes, but every line would have at least one "****". He turned out to be a great fit for one of my own RPGs, though, and is horribly abusing the players verbally while providing them with a deus ex dragona or two from time to time. ^_^
- Clay Riley / Elias Donbrook (Legacy of Heroes): Clayton Riley was an orphaned mage apprentice whose master Elias, slain by a rival, traveled with him as a ghost. He could access his own and his master's abilities and was therefore surprisingly powerful. Also tended to get in arguments with his invisible ghost master. Frequently. Very fun character to play, and virtually everybody seemed to like him. I'm honestly a little surprised I've never played him again, but he went so well the first time I don't know that I could do better. Commune's Earth ID of "Henry Riley" is a reference to him.
- Vincent Malaconte (Point of Focus): Young dhampire on the run from his vampire father. Also trained by one of the best vampire hunters in the world. Incredibly over-formal, easily flustered socially, and an absolute cold-blooded terminator in combat. Very scary at times--kind of a kid, vampire-hunting "Batman Begins/Dark Knight"-style Batman, personality-wise. I'm astonished how well he worked in a really kind of crazy world with robots and vampires and mecha and wizards and all sorts of things...but I will still always love the scene where, faced with a giant, out-of-control robot, he rushed past a shocked cop, ripped the shotgun from his hands, dove straight at the robot and blew out its optics without the slightest hesitation. (Of course, he got to do some good ol' fashioned vampire hunting too!) Everyone who didn't know what he really was always thought he must be some kind of secret combat droid. ^_^
- Seeoh / CO-107-E (Rise of the Sith): Secret combat droid. Built to kill Jedi, but decided he didn't like killing things and went on the run. Kind of like Samuel Black with a cheerful personality and amazing combat skills. Had many, many misadventures around the galaxy. ^_^
Adult Characters
Edit
Just for interest, here's a list of characters I've done for MUXes who have definitively been adults: physical and chronological age 20+, permanently.
- Jacob Bargoi ver. 1 (Legends Rising): The fire-based one was 20 and stayed that way.
- Beknashan (Legends Rising): Older than dirt and looked it.
- Eric Vincent Lawson (TomorrowMUX): Shadow operative on the Seaquest DSV. Fun character, actually, I might try to find a way to do him again sometime.
- King Edgar Figaro: Barely counts since I only played him for literally one scene, but this is also literally the only feature character I've ever played. For those who don't know, he's from Final Fantasy VI (III US).
Of course, in my own RPGs--Bravery's Source, War of $ouls, and Chasing Shadows--I run tons of adult characters (there's only two kid characters in Bravery's Source--one of whom is a different version of "Danny," above--and none so far in either of the others).
Near-Qualifiers
Edit
- Jacob ver. 2 and 3, as mentioned before, nearly qualify--they spent 99% of their game time as adults (or at least the 17-19 range).
- Cowardice was also an adult when he showed his true form to fight, but he possessed a kid (what better way to freak out heroes?), so that disqualifies him.
- Elias Donbrook, Clayton's master, was an old man, but wasn't the primary character.
- Aiheu, a frequently-appearing teacher for a young minstrel character of mine, was adult but also not the primary character.
- Aaron, a bodyguard for Hoshigawa Takeya, a blind musician, appeared virtually all the time, but again, not the primary character.
Characters I'd Love to Do Again but Don't Know How
Edit
- Vergessen: (though I'm told that's actually the feminine form of the word and to make it male I'd add an "e" at the end, maybe. Still have to look that up. When I originally looked it up it meant "Forgotten," but upon looking in other dictionaries it might actually be the verb for "to forget"...one of the dangers of working in another language.) Another concept that I'm not sure works on MUXes in general, though on the original game he could pretty well since it was more of a mystery/investigative game. Immortal--even nigh-unharmable--supernatural investigator who basically acted as the "monster the monsters fear." My idea with him was to take that classic horror concept of the unstoppable killing machine, give it a brain and a knowledge of how to kill monsters, and set it loose against the evil usually-unstoppable killing machines. Never got to do the scene I really wanted to do--something like a bunch of werewolves or vampires running away like you see the scared teens do in one of those slasher flicks--but it was still fun. I'd have to find the right game, though.
Character Ideas I've had that I can't figure out how to do in a MUX
Edit
- Psychometry character / truth-seer: A character who can "see" the truth of events via psychometry (object-reading) or perhaps even full-on vision simulations (neat idea: the visions are actually real to him, and events in them can hurt him, so he has to be careful). I love the concept, but MUX plots rarely get investigative (or if they do, they involve established investigator characters rather than OCs), so it's tough to see the character really working.
